I have been watching GAGA like a hawk. In her latest video Bad Romance she references Dolce and Gabbana Adverts, The Bauhaus (Bath haus of Gaga), theres stuff in there that i don't even understand but its always so fucking beautful. She creates many different paradoxes by making putting her work into a pop zone and getting working class kids to sing lyrics like "Im a free bitch baby"
She talks about working in a similar way to Worhol in that she has a load of specialists fasion designers, set ppl, lighting co ordinators, choreographers who all work with her and she describes her vision and they help her orchestrate it. Shes made a video for youtube where shes combined all her songs from the album into one and made a performance piece where she goes around with her bitches following her. I cant find where but somewhere she put that she believes that pop music can be high art. And i believe she somehow does that.
Usually when a star rises they start off with normal hair like the everyday person and slowly as the money comes in they become transformed and I can remember unusually thinking she just came straight in with high end looks and high end videos etc. how did she convince ppl to put money into her?
But she references stuff and makes so many intellectual references that it doesnt make her just a shitty pop icon. She openly admits her music takes 10 mins to write but its not about that. She makes catchy red wines and gagas and da da ooh lalas to get into your head and the whole project around the fame is a good enough effort.

the reason I have highlighted this is because I often use pop music as a way of escapism. I often sit at youtube and type in the the same shit pop artists and pretend to be them and dance around my room. I have never questionned this action conceptually untill one of GAGAs songs beautiful dirty rich. Here are the lyrics.

there is an amazing paradox to me singing this to myself. Shes almost laughing at me getting me to sing this to myself in my room on my own, suffering from alienation singing about being beautiful, i am okay but i am not the glossy beautiful she is, I am not dirty rich and I cant go to daddy so I find this song harlarious and very very very clever.
