CONSUMED/CIVILISATION? AND SHAKESPEARES SEVEN AGES OF MEN

I'm currently reading a book called Consumed ^^^^^ and it's very interesting it discusses how markets corrupt children and dumb adults down. I picked up the first civilization game in a charity shop over the summer without really knowing why but understanding that it had significance. I then found a second one the other day and bought that as well. interestingly...in this book is suggests that civilization no longer exists and it is now a virtual game. I am interested in playing with this idea. It also states that universally every middle class teenager lives pretty much the same life nike shoes, gets ready of school, eats same kind of cereal etc. and this is what markets are aiming for. to get the biggest amount of mass people buying the same stuff and this is why they dumb adults down so they all meet in the middle. It reminds me of an advert in the Times of something I read in the summer about parents going to meet their children whilst their travelling around the world. How bloody weird. Also the guardian supplements now has how to look cool in all ages from 20's to 50's and 60's. In China because of the 6 people in each house hold 1 child thing every person will cater to the childs needs to markets aim everything at them. (2 parents 4 grandparents) Also there are adverts in between school t.v channels which cost the same ammount as a slot during the superbowl final. No body wants to be old anymore. Ageing gracefull is unheard of and some parts of the seven ages are being cut out. I researched the seven ages of man and tried the paint them out as a reaction to what I was ready.
I will highlight which bits I painted over in red

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players,
They have their exits and entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
Then, the whining schoolboy with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden, and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice
In fair round belly, with good capon lin'd,
With eyes severe, and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws, and modern instances,
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slipper'd pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose, and pouch on side,
His youthful hose well sav'd, a world too wide,
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
Turning again towards childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

What I also found interesting was in the book it talks about Spielberg etc doing trash shit films to get blockbuster money and it had tables of the top 10 sellers in 2000-2006. All of them were either chick flicks, trash like shrek, and blockbuster shit like war of worlds.

I want to continue watching figures like this as pop culture interests me alot!!!!

I also found a save the rainforest article with the times and on the back were a list of companies which supposidily have helped the amazon. these included the likes of shell and mc.donalds. GIVE ME A BREAK?!?!
